Heathrow Reimagined: A Better Hub for Britain responds to Heathrow Airport Limited’s (HAL) Kelly Report, regarding the North Hyde Substation outage

A spokesperson for the Heathrow Reimagined campaign, said:

“Lessons must be learnt from the closure of Heathrow during March’s power outage, but the internal Kelly Review allows Heathrow to set and judge by its own standards. It fails to properly tackle the poor contingency planning and years of inefficient spending that left Heathrow vulnerable.”

“HAL’s position that Heathrow requires another £1bn investment for future resilience, without a comprehensive plan and rationale in place to justify the investment, exemplifies how HAL’s operating model incentivises it to keep spending without being held to account. Their proposals are against the interest of both consumers and airlines, who will face higher charges as a result. The time has come for a fundamental review of Heathrow’s economic regulation by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to investigate what has gone wrong and to address the root causes.”
