London, 7 May 2025
American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), a leading software and services company for travel, expense, and meetings & events, has joined the Heathrow Reimagined campaign. The campaign calls on the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for an urgent and fundamental review into the way in which Heathrow, the UK’s only hub airport and the largest in Europe is regulated, for the benefit of consumers, businesses, and the UK economy.
Heathrow Reimagined is currently engaging with the CAA about potential solutions, without delaying the government’s proposed expansion timetable, following years of declining passenger experience and ageing infrastructure at the airport. These regulatory reform options draw insights from other international models, although it is likely Heathrow will need a bespoke solution to be effective.
A spokesperson for Heathrow Reimagined, said:
“Just last month, despite being the world’s most expensive airport, Heathrow yet again failed to rank inside the Top 20 Global Rankings by Skytrax. We urgently require a fundamental review by the CAA to understand what has gone wrong and to create a regulatory model that can deliver the Top 5 Hub airport Britain deserves.
“This support from Amex GBT is both a demonstration of the campaign’s continued momentum across the aviation, business and travel industries, and also another clear signal from the international community and customers of Heathrow that the time to act is now.”
Andrew Crawley, President at Amex GBT, said:
“To deliver on its growth agenda, the UK requires a world class hub airport. For too long, the existing regulatory model has incentivised inefficient spend leaving businesses paying more for less. We look forward to working with Heathrow Reimagined to improve traveller experience and unlock the significant potential Heathrow presents for the global business travel community. Without action now, we risk prices rising for businesses for decades to come.”
The Heathrow Reimagined campaign continues to actively engage with the wider industry and government to achieve its primary objective of fundamental reform. This can serve as a first step towards delivering value for consumers, UK plc and the government’s growth agenda. The campaign is supported by American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT), the Heathrow Airline Operators’ Committee (AOC), Advantage Travel Partnership, American Airlines, Arora Group, Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR UK), Business Travel Association (BTA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Airlines Group (IAG), Virgin Atlantic and World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
